"An Iconic Painter"

There is an unique icon of The American Revolution.
I am compelled to write about his great contribution.
He served as aid to General Washington and Gates.
As a painter his depiction of events historically elate.

In 1817 Trumbull was commissioned by Congress
To paint, for The Capitol's Rotunda, 4 great paintings.
He did so by Jefferson's urging whom he did impress.
These works are very massive; that is no understating.

These 12'X18' works reflect Revolutionary 'Wonders'.
Viewing them you are surrounded by much to ponder.
The "Declaration of Independence" he painted first.
"The Surrender of Burgoyne", is a great 'visual verse'.

"The Surrender of Cornwallis" was war's final mission;
Followed by "Washington Resigning His Commission".
For each of his iconic paintings $8,000 he did receive.
The historical value is inestimable, as so many believe.

You may have held 'tokens' of his works from back then.
The back of a $2 Bill and Hamilton's Portrait on the Ten
Are small reflections of his talent that he used to portray
The men responsible for America's Freedom in that day.

The "Declaration of Independence", sketched from life,
Includes portraits of 42 of the 56 signers and 5 other greats.
The faces in the painting show joy amidst impending strife.
It is a great painting depicting the birth of The United States.

His over 250 artworks is the closest thing to your 'being there'.
You will travel back in time as only he can make you aware.
