What Happened at Midnight?

A dark hour it was, mire, filth and pain.
Put in stocks charged with disorder was the claim.

Two chosen of God released a girl from evil.
Suffering, because others lost profit and gain.

Singing Praises to God, how could that be?
Trusting God were they, not able to see.

Taunted were these two, not knowing what next.
Put in prison, were stirred without rest.

An earth shook, and began to quake.
Darkness prevailed, lives were at stake.

A miraculous event took place that hour.
All doors opened, chains lost their power.

The jailer awakened, upset with strife.
Sword in hand, thinking to take his life.

Paul cried out, “Do no harm to yourself”!
We’re all here, the jailer called for light.

Trembling, this jailer fell before Paul.
Could anyone show discontent at all?

“What must I do?” was this jailer’s cry.
“How can I be saved?” A tear in his eye.

Believe in the Lord Jesus, was the plea.
Salvation came, this jailer ad family would see

New birth had begun, new hope put in sight.
From this Philippian jail, came new life that night. AMEN
