I may be the worst of wretches,
Your kindness ever remains with me;
My eyes may be those of letches,
You still insist to set me free.

Seeing within my heart’s dark recess,
I find desire to please You alone.
Even amongst the stench of my flesh,
I find Your goodness on each bone.

Your goodness, Lord, brings me repentance,
The grace of Christ is heaven-sent;
My sins replaced with Your remittance,
Your peace with me is what You have meant.

My mind may sink to offend me,
With thoughts so vain or so lewd,
Still Your word comes to give me glee;
Visions of You are what’s viewed.

Your truth reigns within this heart,
My sacred bounds of security;
I am learning You never part,
And I will be as meant to be.
