(Written 9-13-04, based on Romans 8)

You condemn not,
Those walking in Your Spirit.
The law of Your Son’s life,
Frees from sin’s law of death.
Knowing Your law was weak in us,
And could not fulfill Your purposes,
You sent Your Son,
By Him, You condemned sin;
That what You required, by the law,
Be fulfilled in those walking by Your Spirit,
And not by the flesh.

Those, the fleshly-minded;
They will perish, for they oppose You,
They cannot be subject to You;
They cannot please You.
Those who walk Your Spirit
Have so set their minds;
And have life and peace.

If the Spirit is at home in us,
Then I am in the Spirit, and at home.
If Christ reigns in us,
I am dead because of sin;
Spirit quickens us to righteousness.
By the Power that raised Jesus,
We will be given life;
He will quicken me by Your Spirit.

Your Son’s one act enables us,
It empowers us,
And we are free to do as You wish.
You gave this to us freely,
And we are so indebted,
No longer obligated to sin,
And we are glad, for sin leads to death.

By Your Spirit, we have power,
Power to destroy fleshly deeds.
And the sons of God are led by His Spirit.
Relationship is indicated by the evident life.
This life must endure with Him,
That it may glory with Him.

Compare the weights of this life,
To the weight of the glory afterward.
To do such is vain, for nothing compares.

What will be this glory found in us,
What has the Lord deposited in us?

Even all of nature awaits for this revelation,
Since it will also glory with us.
And God allowed the futility of this world to endure,
Not because of His desire,
But because of the potential found in Him.

And we know creation yearns for this glory,
For His children yearn as well.
This yearning is the firstfruit of the Spirit,
We desire the adoption,
This redemption of our bodies.

We await for His consummation!

For what, would we be saved,
If not for this hope?
We wait not for what we know,
But for what we know not,
Not for what is seen, but unseen.
This is the eager heart
Of the child of God.

With similar eagerness, the Spirit helps,
As we are weak;
We are ignorant of what we need.
So, He stands for us,
Interceding with ineffable groanings.
Yet the Father, who searches our hearts,
Knows the mind of His Spirit.
For they speak to One another,
According to the will of the Godhead.
And we have what we need, by His plan.

So we are aware of all that works for His good,
For those who love Him;
The called according to His nature.
He knew whom He would call,
Only those who called on Him.
These, He predetermined to be conformed,
To His Son’s image.
You call, whom You’ve predestined;
For Your called, you have justified;
These justified will be glorified.

How should we summate?
Since You are for us,
Who dares to be against us?
You did not spare Him,
But delivered Him for our sakes;
You live to give, as with Him,
And will freely give us all things.

Who can lay a charge against us?
You alone justify.
Who can condemn Your own?
Your Christ, for our sakes, died,
And then rose,
Being seated at Your right hand;
He stills serves us,
Interceding for us.

This love refuses to leave us,
This love of Christ.
Nothing can take it from us,
Neither trial, nor anguish,
Starvation, nor lack of clothing,
Danger, nor any weapon.
We may be killed, for Your sake, all day,
And counted as sheep for Your slaughter,
Even so, greater than conquerors are we,
Through Your love.

May this be our persuasion,
Our conviction:
Neither death, nor life, for that matter,
Angels or the highest demon,
Any power or despot
Where we are now,
Or where we’ll be,
Any high point,
Any low point,
Anything coming against us,
Will be able to take us from Your love,
Found in Your Son.
