“The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the spirit.” – John 3:8 (NLT).

The splash tetra copella is one amazing little creature you would find extremely fascinating. The fish grow to a length of about 2.7 inches (7 centimeters) and live in the tributaries of the Amazon and other large South American rivers. Mind-blowing fact: It lays its eggs outside of water! How does it manage this?

When a male is ready to mate, it takes up position in the water below an overhanging leaf. It does a little display, and if a female is interested, she will sidle up next to him. Then, they will leap out of the water together. They latch unto the underside of a leaf with their fins. The female releases six to eight eggs and the male quickly fertilizes them, before they fall back into the water. The pair repeat this process several times until they have deposited about 200 eggs onto the leaf. The male then hides in aquatic vegetation near the leaf, where he keeps an eye on the eggs. He defends the territory and periodically splashes the eggs with his tail fin (which is asymmetrical, most likely for this purpose) to keep them moist. When the fry hatch, after 48 hours, they fall into the water, where they hide as best they can. These young ones (with a life expectancy of about three years) grow up and continue this process.

Probably, the most amazing fact about this fish is that its intellectual capability is nothing compared to other complex vertebrates. Science may attribute this wonderful phenomenon to evolution or adaptation, but the point remains that it is a breathtaking demonstration of God’s excellent work of creation. The splash tetra does not learn any of this process from the parent or any predecessor. It seems to be embedded in its very existence – a sort of intuitive ability – and we might never come to fully understand how this mind-blowing reproductive technique comes about or how it is passed down its generations.

In our opening scripture, Jesus Christ likens one who is born of God with the wind; as much as it can be heard, no one knows exactly where it comes from or where it goes. When we accept Christ, we become a new creation bearing God’s identity. It is embedded in our spirit to function and act like God. The bible says that as we abide in the knowledge of Christ, God’s divine power is manifested in us, and we partake of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:1-4).

As believers, we have been endorsed as God’s own children, this was sealed by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30b) when we were saved. “The spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together” – Romans 8:17 (NKJV). Because we are one with Christ in the spirit, we partake in His sufferings and also His glory that follows. This is why Paul says our lives are hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3) and we are seated with Christ in the heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), and John says Christ advocates in our stead (1 John 2:1). Walking in this reality as a believer entails maintaining the consciousness that you are a carrier of the God-life and are destined for great manifestations (Romans 8:19).
