Cut to the Heart: The Gospel is sharper than a two edged sword
Acts 5:27-32 says: And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, saying did we not straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man`s blood on us. Then peter and the other Apostles answered and said, we ought to obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost whom God hath given to them that obey Him.
My subject is cut to the heart: the Gospel is sharper than a two edged sword. Amen, the Gospel is sharper than a two edged sword. Here in the scripture, we read of Peter and the other apostles testifying to the chief priest and high priests about Jesus Christ and that God the Father raised Him from the dead to be a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
These religious leaders could not stand hearing the Gospel. When confronted with the fact that they slew our Lord and hanged Him on a tree, they were cut to the heart. So is it in the world, when you tell people that Jesus is the only One who can save you from your sins, the world gets cut to the heart. They cannot believe that salvation is only through one man so they are cut to the heart. But, Jesus Christ is not just a man, He is also God. Because of this, the Pharisees took up stones to slay Him. They were cut to the heart.
The high priest said did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name and behold ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine and intend to bring this man`s blood upon us. Jesus Christ came into this world to heal the sick , deliver the oppressed, preach repentance and offer His life as a ransom for all. It is only through the name of Jesus that a man can receive forgiveness of sin. There are many doctrines in the world, but only one Gospel. Jesus is the only way to have peace with God. The Gospel is not for the faint of heart, it is a flesh killer therefore we die daily. Hebrews 4:12 says For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword piercing even to the dividing asunder of the soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Jesus` words are Spirit and they are life so in them is darkness at all. Not cunning and wicked as man`s devices, but Holy and anointed the power of God.
In conclusion, St. Matthew 8:5-8 says and when Jesus was entered into Capernaum there came unto Him a centurion beseeching Him and saying Lord my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him I will come and heal him. The centurion said Lord I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only and my servant shall be healed.
The Gospel cuts, delivers, saves and heals. It is sharper than any two edged sword. Amen.
