Family
In the shadows of our childhood,
We can find a safe retreat;
It still seems controlled and stable,
As we walk a 'hometown' street.
Where, in Spring, the yellow jonquils
Peeked from neatest flower beds;
In the shadow of a childhood
That had known no fear or dread.
In the shadow of our childhood,
We recall the sounds of 'then,'
Whip-poor-wills...and owls a'hooting;
Frenzird clucking of the hens;
Noisy boys are playing marbles,
Happy girls are skipping rope,
In the shadow of a childhood
Well-attuned to love and hope.
In the shadow of our childhood,
We reccall...but can't relive,
Cannot bring those days to present,
Matters not...how much we'd give.
Time...the greatest equalizer
Causes folks to think of home,
And in our childhood shadows....
It's as if we've never gone!

Howard, this really touched my heart. It brought back some lovely memories. There were a couple of typos that I noticed - "frenzird" should have been "frenzied" and "reccall" should have been "recall". But they were just cosmetic things. The poem was a little treasure. Love, Deb
