Encouragement

There is a lot of potential in the church today that is being overlooked. I am talking about those who stay in the background for whatever reason. I have pastored churches and it does not take a genius to spot somebody like that when you are preaching. They often drink the word in very well and you can see they do. So that is not a problem. The problem is often that the same people preach or pray and they have what you might call a spiritual inferiority complex.

We need to let the Holy Spirit speak to us about them. I will give you an instance. I was in a service happily minding my own business when the Pastor came over. Handed his bible over to me and said go on and preach. I was mortified and speechless. For one thing I had a stutter which often came when I was going into something new. I was also a background person enjoying my comfort zone. There was no way I was going to move out of my seat. Glued to the spot is the right term to use.

I suddenly felt myself walking up to front and then gazing around at everybody. I thought if I looked down at his bible and the thought came, if I make a mess of this he will come and rescue me. Well he did not move as I opened my mouth and nothing seemed to come out. He just smiled and I thought he was supposed to look after me. After a while I started to read from the word and much to my surprise the stammer went and I started to preach and the more I did the better if got.

At the end of the service i asked my Pastor what made him do that. Not me he replied it was the Holy Spirit he told me you would preach and be a Pastor. Well I started to accept the first bit but not the pastor. I did and have done so and enjoyed myself always aware that the Holy Spirit could speak to me about someone. I think this is missing in our churches. God can call anybody into any part of his service. We need to be aware of it.
