How to Have All Things Added

Years ago when I first started writing poems I had an interesting experience that was a great lesson to me. I had poems written that I sensed from the Lord and the Holy Spirit told me to put them in a book. What a journey that ended up to be!

I tried for 5 years to get a book made. I hired a person to help, yet all help failed. It seemed that no matter what I did this would just not come together. I thought “Lord you told me to do this so why won’t it come together?” I had a lesson to learn I found out.

I was in Church one Sunday worshipping the Lord and the Holy Spirit spoke to me that I had been striving. I thought now what does He mean that I am striving so I asked the Lord. He said this to me. Rick, I told you to put the poems in a book: I just didn’t tell you to do it without me. Oh what a revelation. I had been doing this without Him. I had gotten into works and not realized it. There is a real fine line here and if you can grasp the twist it will change your life forever.

Mathew 6:
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Who or what are you seeking first? If you are seeking the kingdom of God first you are seeking what God wants. You then are not seeking to build your own kingdom. His is an eternal kingdom. Yours is a temporal kingdom that only satisfies your flesh. When flesh does not get what it wants it becomes frustrated.

Do you ever find yourself frustrated over something? Did you know that frustration is not the fruit of the Spirit? God doesn’t get frustrated; we do. Frustration is the fruit of the flesh not the spirit. I was frustrated over the book. Notice I said I. It was my flesh that had been trying to do this. I had gotten into works. The Word says that we are to be led by the Spirit not the flesh. Even though God may have something in mind that is to be done through us, we must always remember that if we are crucified with Christ and are no longer living, then how can we do this? It takes Jesus in us to do these things. It is all about Him doing things through us. We often try to put God in a formula or box Him in to do something a certain way. We are really asking Him to be our servant. We are His servant. Once we can understand that it is never about what we do in the flesh that is of value and that the only fruit that will remain is Him working through us, we are going to have many struggles in life. Instead of us asking God to do what we want so that we may do the things we want, we need to be asking God what He wants and coming into agreement with Him. It is an odd and easy twist to make. We tend to ask God to come into agreement with us (makes us Lord); instead of us coming into agreement with what He shows us to do.

I know that many may have a problem with this statement, but regardless it is true anyway. God did not ask us to walk the Bible. God desires that we be crucified with Jesus so that He can walk the Bible as His Father leads Him through us. Our flesh cannot walk the Bible. This is striving, religion, and works. This is us trying to do things in our strength. God desires that we are crucified with Jesus so that it will become Jesus doing His Fathers will through us. Instead of our focus being on working for God, we need to start thinking differently. We need to start thinking about Jesus working in and through us instead. It is His work that counts, not ours. This is where we will find His power evident in our lives.

Instead of focusing on works, we need to learn to focus on hearing from the voice of the Lord and just doing what He says to do. This will bring the good end results. It is a focus problem with man. Mathew 6:33 says that we are to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and then all things will be added. We tend to focus on things being added so much more than seeking Him first. If we could only learn to focus more on getting into His presence with our praise and worship of Him, we would then find that things will happen so much easier. We tend to focus on the problems more than we focus on Him. This is striving and will not produce good lasting fruit.

I think most people do not really know how or even believe that they can totally trust the Lord to do the things that He says. Our focus must become getting into His presence as first priority. Then all things will be added. We have heard this statement for years that we are to “Let Go and Let God”. It is so important that we learn how to do this on a daily basis. God cannot do things if we are carrying them and trying to do them in our flesh. When we can totally release whatever it is and give it to God, then He can work it out for our good. In order for us to release things we must first learn how to trust Him. It is hard to give something to one that you don’t believe or trust isn’t it? We can trust Him. We must do things His way if we are to see victory.

God’s ways are really simple. Let Him be Lord. Learn to rely on Him instead of yourself. Self gets weighted down carrying all the burdens. Jesus said that His yoke is easy and burden is light. Carry His burden alone. Cast all your cares upon Him as He cares for you. If we get weighted down from the heavy load then we are not of much use to the Lord to work through. Also when we carry the burden we cannot seem to shake it off or pray through it. It is a weight on us. God’s burden is light. If it is His burden we can pray through it and a release will come as we are obedient to His Holy Spirit. We will walk in freedom instead of bondage.

The bottom line is that no matter what it is circumstantially, you can walk in peace and victory if you will allow God to be God and do what He says. When you take matters into your own hands and expect God to do what you think should be, then you will end up frustrated and discouraged. Let God be God. You can trust Him!!
