Matthew 22
New King James Version (NKJV)
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
My Beloved Brothers and my Sisters,
The recent events of Whitney Houston's death has cause many us to reflect on the greatness of this amazing woman. This morning the Lord put in my spirit these words, "when a woman loves a man", these are a few simple words that I would like to share with you in retrospect of a great woman's life of love. Nothing is wrong with a woman loving a man and this being February the Love month it seems appropriate that we talk about love. The above scripture text reflects how Jesus responded to a lawyer of the Pharisees (an official of the religious sect of that day) who asked him a question to test him, "Teacher which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus replies," You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Isn't it interesting how religious folks are always trying to test and turnaround the commandments of God. Loving God is the greatest of all commandments and loving your neighbor as yourself is like it which means it compliments and completes that commandment. Therefore; Love has a sequence or a prescribe order which it must be followed to be effective and fulfilling. If your Love for someone exceeds the love you have for God then you have created an idol, and God says that he is a jealous God and that you should not worship any other god(Exodus 34:14).Also, your love for other people should be a derivative of your love for yourself. Whitney had express some parts of that truth but not the whole truth when she sang "The greatest love of all"...the greatest love of all is to love God with all your heart, mind and soul and then your neighbor as your self....not just loving your self. Now, to when a woman loves a man. God did not have to command women to love their husbands because love comes natural for most women. The issue that a woman has in loving a man is that she gets lost in her love for her man and consequently loses herself and her perspective of God's love. You have heard the term, " I love him to death." Well, love that is out of the divine order will cause death. God must be your first love and the only man that deserves your love in totality meaning (with all your heart, mind and soul). Women you must not forget the order of love which is ('God' and then 'Man'). Also, when you love your man allow that love to flow from your love of God and your love of self. When a woman loves a man....it is truly amazing! A woman love is similar of God's love for his Church. A woman love is so sacrificial and self emptying that one can only identify those attributes to Christ dying on the cross...when a woman loves a man....it is simply heavenly!
