At the Crossroads

"...it came to pass that all the armies of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt." Exodus 12:41

Are you at a crossroad in your life and not sure what way to go? Do you feel the Lord leading you on, but you're not sure where that is?

For a few days, I would like to take a look at the children of Israel and their journey from Egypt to the promised land. We can learn so much about how God leads His children through the various steps of their journey.

The first thing that the Israelites had to do was actually leave Egypt. It sounds simple enough but was not a small task. It involved a mass movement of people and where were they going? I often wonder why they followed Moses toward the Red Sea? How did they expect to get so many people across? Where did they think they were going to? What did they anticipate it was going to be like? The truth was, they didn't know. They were at a crossroad. There only option was captivity or freedom. They had to move out and leave Eygpt.

If you're feeling God is calling you, are you ready to move forward and to leave the past behind? Now, I'm definitely not suggesting that you go out and quit your job or leave your ministry or drop out of school. However, are you ready to say 'goodbye' to the comforts of your life? You see, even the Israelites had a regular routine of life which was (compared to what they would endure in the wilderness) bearable.

If you feel that God is leading you to a new job, start putting your resume together and applying for new jobs. It's hard work but I know that God will honour you as you pray AND begin to work out His will for your life. Don't just expect God to hand it to you on a plate. Pray about the type of job that you should be in and then actively look. You'll be amazed at what God does. Maybe a job that you'd never considered before will suddenly stir an excitement within you.

If you're looking to find God's will in ministry, find yourself faithful in your local church. David would become king of Israel and he was clearly anointed. But where was he when Samuel came to look for the next king? He was tending his father's sheep in the field. He was faithfully doing what he was called to do at that time. In your church, are you actively involved? Do you attend a home/cell group? Do you help out where you can? Do you have a good attitude doing what you're doing at the moment? Be found faithfully doing what you're supposed to be doing at this moment and God will find you and lead you on to what He has prepared for you.

If you're looking for direction for what to study, pray but also take the time to look for work experience. God will lead you. He will cause your heart to delight in certain things because He has already placed the desires in your heart. (Psalm 37:4)

The fact that you feel God leading you on means that it's time to move forward. Start to push at doors to see if they're the open door before you. God will show you the way to go.

Be ready to leave the life that you have at the moment. Be ready to be spiritually moved to the next level that God has for you. Egypt was a land of the miraculous when God originally brought Joseph there, but it had become a land of captivity for the children. Why? Because it was time for them to move on. If God hadn't of made things difficult for them, they may never have entered the promised land.

In our lives, God can bring us to a place miraculously and lead us out in quite a normal way. We must be careful that we don't get stuck in the past because it used to be so miraculous. In my life, my husband and I felt the Lord stirring us when we were quite comfortable. So we began to look for new opportunities. Soon afterwards, we were asked to pastor a church which we felt God was calling us to accept. So we went to our workplace to hand in our resignation, only to be told that our office was closing down. Imagine our joy when we saw how precisely God had led us. We didn't know what the future was. We were just faithful to look when we felt the stirring of the Holy Spirit within us.

If we stay put when God is telling us to go, we become bound in captivity, just like the Israelites. Things may be relatively comfortable but we will not move forward in God and walk into the things that He has promised for us.

Start looking to see what doors will open for you. Pray constantly and read the word of God - He will give you divine guidance. Be excited and continue to thank Him!

Prayer:
Thank you God that you are leading me to to walk in your will. I thank you that your word is a light that shows me the way to go. As I stand at this crossroad today, I pray that you will guide me in the right direction. As I work faithfully, I pray that you will close the doors that are not of your will and that you will show me the way that You have prepared for me. Amen.
