It was dark, oh so very dark. Empty. Darkness was everywhere, pervasive, reaching into the deepest recesses of the universe. Dark. Lonely.
"LET THERE BE LIGHT." There, it was said. God spoke. It was done. Light entered the world, and it was what God wanted. It changed everything. God then divided the light from the darkness and saw that it was good.
Men like to walk in darkness, turning away from the Light that exposes evil. They go carelessly along their ways, stumbling and fumbling in the blackness, working their iniquities, hidden in the inkiness of the dark. It is all around, and they do not even realize there is light waiting to guide them into a new delightful way to live.
Light cancels out the darkness. But light must be sought. There are glimmers of it all around; in the sun, from the moon and stars. We hear bits and pieces of the Truth, but we are without understanding. We have no way to comprehend without the Spirit's teaching. The Word of God is light, but there are few to listen. No one seems to be looking in the right direction.
God gave people all they would ever need to exist in this world. He showed them the Way to Himself, and they could walk in the Light of that knowledge and understanding as long as they would choose to do so. However, darkness prevailed as humankind chose, instead, to live each one in his own way.
At last, He sent His Son, Jesus, into the world. Jesus Christ, the Living Word, the Light of the world. The one, true and everlasting Way. The path of righteousness. Many followed, and have been seeking Him ever since. He is the Way. There is no other way to know God the Father without first knowing the Savior, Jesus. He alone is Light. He gives direction to the lost and dying among us. He lights the way we travel in this world. We must seek Him while He may be found.
As countless others before me, I too stumbled in the darkness. How long I floundered dry and weak, weary and full of lies. Little did I know there was one true Way, and that Way was Light. A light that wuold shine in such a way as to scatter the darkness of my soul. I crept around, trying to fulfill some kind of self-imposed 'destiny', never knowing the One Who was waiting to lead me in paths of righteousness.
"LET THERE BE LIGHT." God the Father spoke this to me, and I discovered that Jesus was the Way, the Truth and the Life. I came to my Creator, led by the Spirit of Truth and Holiness, in full brightness. My way was illuminated, and the darkness was scattered, giving way to the Light of the world. I now walk in the Light, and am led and comforted by that same Light. Darkness may prevail around me, but the Light is good, and leads me onward as I learn more each day how to walk with confidence in the teachings of my Lord. The Word is the Light, and the Light is Jesus. God spoke and it was so.
Only He could make something so bright and beautiful out of the dark, discouraged mess that I had been. Only He could take this weary soul and give the restoration that was so desperately needed. Only He could give the guidance that I thought was unavailable to me. What a sinner; what a wretched soul I was. What a Friend He is, Who leads me in the way everlasting...in the Light.
