There are some days I don’t like to listen to people complain.
I really find it annoying.
Frustrating even.
I just don’t understand why people always focus on the negative...
Ah yes I am aware that I have my own wee little relapses into humanity on the negative side of things. I find myself pulled and twisted by so much that I am unable to see the positives.
We live in a very negative world. People are always telling us what is wrong what we do or we don’t do, or what we do that we should do differently.
The biggest thing I have noticed just lately is that so many people complain about their jobs. They complain they hate this or that -really strong language – something we try and teach out kids not to say! People say how they can't stand their boss, underlings or in the case of teachers, kids... well.... its one of the more scary ideas but just maybe... the problems are not with them (boss etc) but with us. Maybe we need to shift our thinking. Stop seeing them as a problem and rise to the challenge.
I’ve seen so many people striving to do well at work, and yet failing to rise to the challenge of meeting and dealing with people. Actually I’m just guessing but most likely it is people who are the root of most problems - if only we didn’t have to deal with them. But we do - even if we work for ourselves, we still deal with people; the biggest problems being ourselves!
Heres some thoughts, if you are feeling discouraged...

Firstly, there is someone who wants to work who cannot, and someone who wants to work and cant find work. There is always someone who wants what you have, I fall into this category – I have a chronic illness and can’t work; but you know, I would love to have a job to hate!

Secondly, there are times in life that God places obstacles in our path - grating with other people, or employment issues... to challenge us and grow us. If we quit - we don’t succeed in being grown. We fail to meet the challenge.

Thirdly - If you REALLY hate working, there ARE some things you can do –First of all, you can open a window of a search engine, and browse through the online job ads - if you find jobs to apply for don’t hesitate to apply.

And then if you get any bites you are at liberty to quit your job because something better has come along. MOST places want 2 weeks notice, some want a month. You can find this quietly before the issues come; but don’t think because you have a job you cant go look. That’s just not true - unless you are on a contract in which case you cant just walk away. You may feel loyalty and so forth to a company – but the reality is, if you are not feeling fulfilled in your job, you are not serving to the best of your ability. If you really do hate your job, find another one.
You know if you don’t hate your job, and don’t want to find another one, there are still things you can do to adjust your perspective.
Remember the old Hymn that goes: "count your blessings name them one by one..." well, take up a pen, and a piece of paper, fold it in half long ways (so you have 2 columns) and write blessings down each column.
If you are really stuck...
turn to John 3:16 and if that doesn’t help - go to the Psalms.
David has an awful lot to say on how bad life is, and how to count blessings; especially in Psalm 13. Right there in the middle of the Psalm is one word...
Learn it.
Read it well.
And then never forget to find your but...
(...BUT I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord for He has been good to me." (Ps. 13:5-6)...)
