Lord, it’s been years since going down this road,
Reliving a childhood of long ago.
It’s hard to see through the veil of time,
Remembering those ties that bind.
Now, I recall as I round the bend
Folks saying, you can’t go home again.

There’s the house just over the rise,
Lord, tears of sadness sting my eyes.
Oh look, peeling paint, the yard over-grown,
No life at all, Mom and Dad are gone.
Just a house of memories of way back when,
A reminder, you can’t go home again.

The pages of time roll back the years,
To images of smiles and love so clear.
Mom’s in the kitchen, hands white with dough,
While dad plays tunes on his old banjo.
Then the picture fades, the music ends,
Showing, you can’t go home again.

Lord, my heart aches for parents now gone,
Because they made this house into a home.
They loved us kid’s and left a legacy,
Of love, honor and integrity.
Yes, time and truth will change many things,
But truth is, I believe you can go home again.

Though the tears are flowing, Lord, I know,
You’ve not meant for this to hurt but to show.
Mom and Dad knew Jesus, it wasn’t the end,
Eternity with You would begin again.
They would return from whence they came,
Proving you can go ‘home’ again.
