The child lay quietly, seemingly lifeless
Her body stone still, eyes full of anticipated caress

Above her the clouded sky rained water droplets of silver
Gently touching her face, melting into a slow descending river

Whilst he stood
Trying as hard as he could

To understand
Wanting to take her hand

To touch and show a sign of care
Show that the world still understood her despair

But he walked, head held high, on by
With none but a slow deafening eerie sigh

Across the world many like her lay seemingly lifeless
Hiding help-less-ness

And signing the road to the future
Our future, our helpless never-ending future.
