I remember as if it were yesterday
those four little words
'I don't want to ...'

I remember his reaction
No words
No sound
Just action!

He grabbed hold of the scruff of my neck
and marched me unceremoiuosly through watching village
Passed friends and foe
Jeering and sneering
That cold November night

No ranting
No raving
No face saving
My little legs barely keeping pace
He striding out
determined to teach me a 'lesson of life'

Up to the closed Church door
Sweet sounds emanating from within

As he un-latched the ancient wood
His first words to me were ...
'You started it, you finish it!'
Then he turned and he left

I stood among silent voices
Red faced and
'oh so humbled'
