Now more than ever it is crucial that we who are operating in various ministries have the anointing of God resting upon us. 1 John 2:27 (KJV), says... But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, as is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. The passage states that the anointing is received from God – given to those who believe and trust in him. The anointing allows us to operate through the Holy Spirit, within our respective callings effectively; not within our own might, but in the power and might of God!

Many are under the false impression that ministry is “glamorous” or “vogue”. We get caught up in the successes of ministry, recognition, vast audiences, and financial blessings that come when we are aligned with God’s purpose for our life. However, we fail to understand that there is a cost to the anointing of God. The woman with the alabaster box gives a wonderful example of presenting the Lord with our best, and giving him all that we have. She offered a most precious and expensive gift – but it was worth it she was giving unto the Lord! Thus, it is that way with those who are truly seeking the anointing of the Lord today. We must give all we have- and sometimes it may hurt, sometimes we may cry; and not understand they why’s the sacrifices will be great. Don’t give up! This woman made her way through the criticism, the discouraging looks of those around her, and she made her way through tradition. She persevered because of the desires and goals that were placed within her. She had to go. She had to do it. The oil she carried was poured on the feet of Jesus, freely and without measure, we should desire the anointing of God to be poured out on us the same way.

However, desire is not enough for the anointing; you must be prepared to pay the cost. Some have said that the greater ones trials in life, the greater the anointing- no pain, no gain. The anointing cannot be obtained with a “how to” book, or transferred to you during a three-day conference. The anointing is a process. True yoke-breaking anointing is cultivated by seeking God’s face through prayer, fasting, and the reading of His Word. As Paul wrote, our natural man must decrease so that God can increase in our lives. He is then able to bring us from glory to glory, deeper- depths, and higher- heights.

The anointing of the Lord is precious, for without it there is no true ministry. What make a ministry alive? What separates a dead, dull, lifeless church, from a church where the gifts of the spirit are operating fully and people are being delivered, and set free? The anointing makes the difference!

I believe we are coming into a time when the true worshipers of God will come forth. Those who have sought God not for selfish reasons, but for a true move from him in their lives, will be used by him. God knows those who have carried their alabaster boxes, waiting for an opportunity to serve Him, those who have fought through the opposing crowds just to touch Him with their tears – their time will come. The days of operating in self-appointed or man-appointed ministry is coming to a head. Today, in the turbulent times in which we live, only the God-appointed and anointed will be effective to break the yokes of the devil and set the captive free (Paul I know, Jesus I know, but who are you?)

When there is true anointing upon the life of a person, the purpose and call of God is undeniable. He will use them in diverse avenues so that His glory, not theirs, can be revealed to the world. A song, book, or message- even a word of exhortation becomes alive and life changing to all who hear it.

God’s anointing – I need it, you need it, we need it.
