She stares at her reflection,
Amazed how they have grown;
This form-once hers only-
For nine months has been his home.
Now, with rapt anticipation,
She awaits her first-born son-
Half-dreaming, half-dreading,
The changes that will come.
She knows it won't be easy,
So she prays for strength within;
Her life leads to this moment-
Waiting for new life to begin.

Damp palms gripping the railing,
Waiting to hear his name,
He knows, from this day forward,
Things will never be the same.
Sixteen years of striving, straining,
Cumulate on this stage
And, as his name is called,
Life turns another page.
He knows it won't be easy,
So he prays for strength within
And confidently steps forward,
Ready for new life to begin.

She cannot bear to watch,
Nor dare to look away;
Her hand caresses his.
Will this be their final day?
Sixty years they walked together
With faith to guide their way,
She will not call him back
Though her heart begs him to stay.
She knows it won't be easy,
So she prays for strength within,
Commits them to their Savior,
And waits for new life to begin.
