I've never been in love
where I was someone's help.
When I said I was in love
that love was for myself.
I couldn't see the one I wanted.
I was blinded by desire.
The heart I had, that I flaunted,
scorched them with a haughty fire.

My problem was my temple heart,
the god I made of me.
This god I made tore life apart.
Those I wanted couldn't be free.
Those I wanted I offered to me
as a burning sacrifice.
Since my god was all I could see
those I wanted were drained of life.
My god was less than nothing,
a cold and vacuous void.
Though other lives were more than something,
their life I drained 'til I was bored.

To my surprise I was left
with self, less than zero.
My vain hope cast adrift,
I failed as my own hero.

A heart of eternity, with a god as huge,
had only room for himself.
A lie misled me with this ruse,
with a destiny of hell.

I soon was made to see the Answer,
to the praise of the only One.
The cure for my own chest cancer
was found in His Son.
I was told as the Lord had died
my god must also die.
In like manner be crucified
and worship the Most High.

Quick I was to the slaughter,
my life was my own hate.
He then made His Grace my offer
and changed my eternal fate.

I walked away from my god,
hanging bloody on a cross.
Christ blest my trust with His nod.
I'm no longer lost.

Exchanging false for the True
is borne of Your infinite wisdom.
Lord, You're in me, as I'm in You.
Of the Father, found in Him.
