Encouragement
Dear Friends,
In this most wonderful season of the year, my personal favorite, I want to express my gratitude to the Lord for all the blessings of this past year. There has been numerous ones and many of them a total surprise. Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. I’ve made jokes in the past that when we grew up we would have a turkey on the table the size of a Volkswagen Bug to feed all of us. And it did…. for days and days and …….you get the picture. But the food is not my favorite part of this holiday. I remember laughter, love and actually solitude during the chaotic growing up years of my life. My home environment wasn’t one that people liked talking about, or even hearing about. But during the actual holiday, it was at the least bearable.
As a teenager at the age of almost sixteen all that changed. When tragedy came our way, my smallest brother and I went to live with another family. I can speak only for myself, but it was most peculiar to have a holiday - everyday. I don’t mean food, presents or any of that. I mean PEACE. It took some adapting to at first but I think we caught on pretty fast. Let’s say, a form of normality was most riddling, but we compromised our past disappointments for the joy that was ahead. It was in those days I learned the true meaning of Thanksgiving. I became a thankful person and I have never changed. Most of all I am thankful for the gift of Jesus Christ, who came that we might have life and life more abundant. (John 10:10)
So, as each us of pause let us not forget what we are thankful for. About six years ago God gave me a song around Thanksgiving time called, “Father You’re So Good” It has been loaded on my MySpace page at: http://www.myspace.com/janemorin - for you to hear. I believe it is a reflection of my spirit man and the gratefulness I have for all His goodness to me. Those of you who receive this, will declare that you have food, clothing, shelter and comfort and that God has provided. Some may say, “No I, I have provided all that I have. I have worked for everything that I have.” I want to say to you..... better yet, let the Lord say:
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. (James 1:17)
May God bless you this Thanksgiving and multiply your efforts to please Him. In doing so, you will begin to understand how much more He has for you. How much more He wants to give you. Mostly, how wide and how deep is His marvelous love towards you.
Most Warmly,
Jane Morin
