Oxford gives five definitions
- A homage (expression of reverence) or service to a Deity
- Adoration or devotion
- Adore as divine, honour with religious rites
- Idolize or regard with adoration
- Be full of adoration

My definitions
- To bow down- an act of highest reverence, to praise or serve one who is worthy
To acknowledge the supremacy of God

3 things to look out for
1. Intimacy with God
2. Declaration of who God is
3. Allowing God to function as God

To Note:
- Worship is an act of intimacy Psalm 42v1 “as the deer pants…” Songs 3v4 “I found him whom my soul loves; I held him and would not let him go.”
- It originates with God Gen 1v1 “in the beginning God…”
- It is focused on Him Heb 12v2 “Fix your eyes on Jesus…”

Why worship?
- God is above all, an Eternal Creator
- God is the Word
- God is Sovereign



Intimacy
Definition “a state of being intimate.” Intimate- “closely acquainted, familiar, private or personal, detailed, thorough, of a relationship between things.”
- Intimacy goes beyond the everyday limits. Involves exploring new areas
- It means a connection of the inmost being, a chemistry that does amazing things
- Involves giving oneself totally and surrendering to the other
- Intimacy not only brings mutual enjoyment but can cause reproduction to take place. In worship God can impregnate us with revelation. 1 John 5v4 “Whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world.”
- Intimacy activates things that have been long dormant and satisfies deeper desires

Declaration
Definition- “a deliberate statement.” Declare- “to announce formally or openly, to pronounce.”
- God makes the first declaration Malachi 1v2 “I have loved you.”
- God worshipers must declare the greatness of God Acts 2v11 “…declaring the wonderful works of God.”

Allowing God to function
We need to get into concentrated worship and fall in love, woo God and then wait for Him to respond to our worship.
