John the Baptist quickly perceived the divinity of the Lord and acknowledged it, however the Lord Jesus Christ was on a different mission to this world, He was not here expecting praises and adoration's, rather He knew that in His humiliation, suffering and death is the glory, healing and life of the entire mankind.

"But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him. "
Matthew 3:15 (New King James Version)

Probably like any other mother when the mother of James and John (the sons of Zebedee) who were disciples of Jesus came to Jesus asking for the best positions for her sons in the kingdom of Christ, Christ clearly told her and also made it known to every one His intentions and principles...

"But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”" Matthew 20:25-28 (New King James Version)

Thus according to Jesus one cannot attain glory by sitting on an elevated chair and exercising command over others.

True glory is in being like Jesus, humbling self and serving others, spreading the love of the Lord by reaching the poor and the needy.

Hearing the response of Jesus were the disciples discouraged? did they leave Jesus and go away?

History records that James proudly embraced death when he was martyred by Herod and John suffered much persecution, however lived faithful to the Lord until old age and died a peaceful death.

Probably they understood where true glory lies, it does not lie in looking down on others, it lies in looking up to the Lord.

Are you too pursuing glory in your life? are you doing it the Lord's way? in serving rather than being served, in ministering rather than being ministered?

As you daily stand before the mirror and try to makeup for the defects on your body, I encourage you to introspect your life before the mirror of the Word.

The Bible says...

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23
