The Cry of the Heart
Do you ever wonder how to pray for someone that you have never met? The one who may be sitting across from you on a bus, standing next to you in a grocery line, or waiting at the stop light?
One of the obvious prayers would be for our Heavenly Father to bless them. The specifics of that blessing are difficult to know unless you can engage them in a conversation which goes below the surface greeting(s).
The Lord told me something recently as i was riding the bus. There was a young lady that i assume was a college student across the aisle from me. i have seen her once before but never spoken directly to her. We made eye contact then she quickly turned away and looked out the window. i sensed the Lord asking me to pray for her, but where do i begin? The Cry of the Heart came to mind. The Lord seemed to say, “Pray that I will meet the cry of the heart.”
Everyone has a cry of the heart. From the person who uses the Lord’s name in vain and claims to have no religion at all, to the one who falls prostrate before the Lord in worship. There is a deep longing that we are trying to satisfy. The path to satisfaction for the unbeliever will take them in many different directions, all leading to a dead end. So they keep searching, never finding the answer. Yet, even believers can have a deep hungering for something more, a desire which only the Lord can fill.
There are people with tear stained hearts all around us waiting to be comforted. We should take every opportunity that we are given to pray for the cries of their hearts.
“Lord, meet the cry of the heart for every one of us. Remind us that You are the only One who can truly dry the tears which we shed on the inside. The deep longings that others are unaware of which burden us and weigh us down. And help us to be tear dryers for others through our prayers. Amen.”
Blessings Always …
