"Cry out more ,may be he is sleeping or on a journey"1 Kings 18 V
19-30.Elijah's mocking word to the prophets of baal on Mount
Carmel,about the Living God and the Unknown god'
This word also replicate itself between my father and a pagan priest
in Omi,Nigeria.The priest an avowed and unrepentant Animist was my
fathers neighbour,times without numbers,my father has discussed
salvation in the LIVING GOD,but he usually tells my father,show me THE
LIVING GOD,And I could remember I read in the Bible,when Moses asked
God "SHOW ME YOUR FACE"and God replied"NO ONE SEE MY FACE AND LIVE
"and each time I remember that phrase I become afraid of God ,and try
to behold His glittering posture .
So when the priest almost on each time my father discussed the issue
of the LIVING GOD,he always asked my father,Show me God,I want to see
HIM !,The pagan priest has a carved wooden image in his shrine which
he offers Oil,Drinks ,Kolanuts,Foods and Fowl,where he recites
incantations to the wooden image for blessings,good health and
bountiful harvest,but despite all these,he still knows no peace.And
this copuled with his annual celebration of his deity with pomp and
peagentry.
The Priest about 76 years old ,took ill one day,despite incissions
with incantations and sacrificing to his deity,his condition keep
deterioriating,My father as usual went to him to share the word of
God,and on his bed side,my father jokingly said"Cry out aloud ,may be
he is sleeping or on a journey"1 KIngs 18 V 19-30",there and then my
father opened the Bible and read"For God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son,that whosoever believeth in Him should not
perished,but have eternal life" JOHN 3 V 16."And this is the
testimony,that God hath given to you eternal life,and this life is His
Son,He that hath the Son hath life,and he that hath not the son hath
not life,These things have I written unto you,that believe in the name
of the Son of God,that you may know that you ahve eternal life and
that you may believe on the name of the Son of God"1 JOHN 5 V
11-13."And this is the confidence that you have in approaching
God,that if you ask anything according to the will,He heareth you,and
if you know that He hear us,whatever you ask,you know that you have
the pettitions that you desire of Him"1 JOHN 5 V 14'
And my father reminded the priest that the Athenians wrote "TO AN
UNKNOWN GOD"ACTS 17 V 23',but Apostle Paul before the
Areapogus,said"The God who made the world and everythinh in it,is the
LORD of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human
hands and He is not serve by human hands,If He needed anything
because,He Himself gives all men life and breath and everything else'
ACTS 17 V 24-25'
And as if God was replaying Elijah's episode,After my had prayed
for the man,he suddenly sprang up on his feet and said thereafter to
my father"TRULY THE GOD WHOM YOU SERVE IS A LIVING GOD !,henceforth"HE
WILL BE MY GOD.I have indeed found the true living God,My father told
the man'The God whom I serve does not accept Oil,Drinks,Foods,Meat nor
Sacrifice but THANKS AND PRAISES !.
From offering of Oil,Food,Meat,Drinks to a carved wooden image (AN
UNKNOWN GOD ) to thanks and praises to the living God at about 76
years old,The pagan priest believe,repented and accept Jesus Christ as
his Lord and personal Saviour.
