Was the question I asked of the Lord.
So often I'd begged for an answer, but now,
I felt I was being ignored.
So often I'd misread the signs that would point
To the road I should take in my quest
To know that I'm following His perfect will,
For God's way is always the best.
I turned to my Bible to find the right verse
That would point to the way I should go;
A verse that would stand out in heavy, bold font
To prove that it WAS apropos.
I'd fasted and prayed as God told me to do
When the need is both urgent and great.
When so much is riding on knowing God's will
That I felt I could no longer wait.
I sought out the counsel of pastors and friends
Who'd experienced answers to prayer
That proved they were godly and close to God's heart;
How I longed for a place with them there.
I looked at my circumstance, hoping to find
If something was blocking my path
From knowing God's will and the joy it will bring
With its beautiful, sweet aftermath.
I searched through God's Word as it spoke of His voice;
Was it strident, demanding, and loud?
Did he shout as did Peter whose volume turned up
When preaching before a large crowd.
The Bible speaks often of God's still, small voice
That is quiet, a whisper, a breath;
It's soothing and soft, it's pleasant and sweet,
A comfort in life and in death.
I'd covered my bases and finally discerned
The verse that would show me God's will.
He calmed His disciples who feared the rough seas
When He whispered to them "Peace, be still."
