Coldfire had tried to stop a political rally that the candidate wanted to hold during a thunderstorm. The candidate, Wilma Leslie, refused to listen, deriding Coldfire for “Trying to suppress my freedom of speech.”
Coldfire had responded, “I’m not trying to stop your campaign. I’m trying to save lives during this thunderstorm.”
Leslie turned her back on the heroine and started her standard speech demeaning the police, and tying the Light Force to the ‘evil police’. Of course someone had started throwing rotten eggs and spoiled fruit at Leslie. Coldfire used her powers to block the projectiles from hitting the candidate.
Coldfire received no gratitude from either the candidate or the audience, which reminded the Christian crimefighter to exercise another fruit of the Spirit, patience.
Coldfire had turned away from the crowd just in time to see a bolt of lightning hit the metal of the stage. She reacted by firing a heat blast at the stage to isolate Leslie from the electricity. Unfortunately, electrified slag her anyway.
An agitator in the crowd heckled Coldfire, “Happy, girl? Leslie was bravely criticizing you and the cops!”
She ignored the fruit tosser as she lifted the victim in to the sky to get her to the hospital.
Coldfire presumed that saving Leslie would be seen as positive by the candidate. She learned that she was mistaken two weeks later, when Wilma appeared on TV. Coldfire’s husband, Megawatt, described her as a red-bikini-clad villainess wielding flame powers. Now calling herself Hot Stuff, she issued a challenge to Coldfire. “First you tried to shut me up, but now you have to deal with me as the freak you created.”
Upon arriving where Hot Stuff was robbing a bank, forcing the manager to livestream the event on her phone, Wilma shouted at Coldfire, “I wanted to be a public servant, but thanks to you giving me these powers, I’ll settle for being rich.”
“Ms. Leslie,“ Coldfire began in a placating tone…
“NOT my name anymore! I’m Hot Stuff!”
“Whatever,” replied Coldfire. “I’m sure you know that stealing is wrong.”
“Yeah,” retorted Hot Stuff, throwing a gout of flame at Coldfire. “Just don’t care.”
Coldfire just allowed the fire to pass over, taunting, “I can do this all day.”
Coldfire rose into the air to see if her foe could follow. Seeing Hot Stuff standing and shaking her fist, Coldfire concluded that she couldn’t. ‘Advantage to me,’ she thought.
Coldfire realized that she needed to wrap this battle up before any innocents got hurt. Concluding that fighting fire with fire, so to speak, wasn’t working, she tried another tactic. Coldfire blasted the other woman with her coldest blast. Her plan bore fruit as Hot Stuff was imprisoned in an icy sheath, allowing Coldfire to fly in and grab her. Coldfire had to keep her speed down, lest the friction of her flight melt the ice too soon.
Coldfire had travelled the world as a super-heroine and had seen some lonely places where Wilma could be thawed out and left behind. Settling on a tropical island in the Caribbean, she deposited Hot Stuff to thaw out.
Contacting her husband, Coldfire arranged for some food to be brought to the villainess. She also helped erect a tent for Wilma to spend time out of the weather.
Wilma responded better to this kindness than her first reaction after she discovered her flame powers.
Coldfire set up a schedule for the team to provide more food to Wilma as well as other modern comforts, attempting to display God’s loving-kindness.
When it was Coldfire’s next turn to deliver food, Wilma remarked, “You are aware that all the trash talk I said about you and your friends was just for the campaign?”
Coldfire felt a bit guilty for imprisoning Hot Stuff without a proper trial, but since the pyrokenitic was committing random violence against innocents, she didn’t feel that guilty. She supposed that living alone on a tropical island was better for her dignity than being locked in a cell with a power dampening collar.
