Adam and Eve tended the garden
with ease and joy
their walk with God
in the cool must be a thrill
They were never meant
to be sick and old
kept from illness and death
was God’s original plan
when He made humankind
Alas
their world changed
upside down
after acting on the lies
told by satan
You would never die
if you eat the fruit
of the tree of knowledge
of good and evil
they listened, so started the Fall
Since then they toiled
and suffered
illnesses of all kinds
Eve had pains
in child bearing to begin
The first couple
were evicted
out of the serene garden
due to their disobedience
and lost the bliss of God’s company
How painful
it must have been
for Adam and Eve
Surely the Creator
felt greater pain
To rescue us
He came
in the person of Christ
to die shamefully
for our sins on the cruel cross
What immense suffering
betrayed, punched,
slapped, mocked and pierced
emotional and excruciating
enormous indeed the pain He endured
It broke the Father’s heart
to hear Him cry
My God My God
why have You
forsaken me
Pain and fear
surrounded
His friends for three days
but peace and joy returned
when from the death Christ arose
Hallelujah
what a gracious Saviour
who was wounded
for our salvation
and reconciliation
