As He walked slowly into the garden
none around Him really knew,
the dreadful plight that He was facing
that pained him through and through

It was torture

As he struggled with conflicting emotions
that burned through Him like a lava flood,
He battled the agonising flame of them
a war so torturous; He was sweating blood

It was torture

To see his disciples slumbering and know
this cup of pain was His to drink alone,
He surrendered himself when the enemy came...but
the bitter sting of the betraying kiss, made Him groan

It was torture

As He stood alone, abandoned, and they scourged
Him… skin, muscles and sinew beat off His back,
His beard hair and flesh ripped from His face,
a crown with huge, long thorns pushed into His head

It was torture

And most men would have been dying by now
from the inner and outer trauma….but His dream
for mankind pushed Him through to carry His cross
until collapsing, and a stranger took it with a scream

It was torture

When they nailed Him to the cross, hitting nerves, sending
unimaginable , excruciating pain - even He fought to endure
the weight of it all - when they lifted the cross and His wounds
and will were pushed to their limit – mankinds salvation to ensure

It was torture

As He uttered the words through His suffering - the sky went dark
and the thunder rolled – and there was a mighty earth shaking BIG BANG
as His unparalleled PAIN COLLIDED with His unparalleled LOVE
on the cross, when he whispered: “It is finished”
