By those who believed that what was hoped for was obtainable, that what was not seen could actually be seen.
Abel did it. When he presented a “better” offering to God than that of his brother, Cain.
Enoch, the one that God took up, did it too. With an understanding of what it took to please God, and how to reap the heavenly benefits of such obedience.
Noah did it as well. Man, did Noah do it! Obeying God when all others mocked him, as they traveled the wide road that led to their own destruction.
Perhaps no one did it as Abraham did it. Leaving his home. Going to a land that he’d never visited. He left doing it. Lived in tents doing it. Believed what God said about his offspring doing it. And was willing to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac, because of it.
There are more.
How about Sarah? She did it. Believed God would keep the promise of children even though her time had passed.
Isaac? He blessed his sons because of it.
Jacob? Same as Isaac. Blessing each of Joseph’s sons. Because of it.
Joseph, too. Because of it, he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Israelites would one day leave Egypt and made plans ahead of time for his bones to be moved with them to the promised land.
Oh, man. We can’t forget about Moses! He did it! And it gave him the ability to speak the words of the Lord, “Let my people go!”
So many more. Even those that were tortured. Killed. They all did it. Because of the belief in a better place, a place prepared by God for them.
The “it” marked the trail for so many throughout the ages.
A trail marked by the giants.
Those who would never give up and never give in.
It is a trail, marked by complete confidence in God.
A trail marked … by it.
A trail marked … by faith.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7, NKJV).
