"What happened to that face that once was mine?
The pimples, moles and wrinkles that are covering my face
Remind me of some rough-cut knotty pine.
"I've spent a fortune on my face to keep it taut and firm
And buy the best cosmetics I can find.
I order cream from Switzerland, 'tis guaranteed to be
The most effective cleanser of its kind.
"Each night I tape my forehead just to keep the wrinkles out;
Those wrinkles during sleep, you can't erase.
My pillow case is hand-sewn, made from China's finest silk;
The cotton ones might scratch my lovely face.
"I spend much of my paycheck for the facials that I need
To steam and to exfoliate dead skin.
I feel it is my duty to protect my flawless face
From forehead to my cute and dimpled chin."
"My dear," replied the mirror, "It appears you've got it wrong.
What you've just said is really quite absurd.
If beauty's what you're looking for and beauty that will last,
You'll find it's well-defined in God's own Word.
"Beauty doesn't come from flawless skin you seem to crave.
Beauty's only skin-deep, I recall.
A gentle, quiet spirit is what's beautiful to God
And you should try to please Him, after all.
"For God will be the bridegroom who will see you walk the aisle
To be His bride, no more to be apart.
He will not notice flaws and lines and wrinkles on your face;
He'll only see the beauty of your heart."
