"Hi, my name is Lucy Ladybug. I saw you from the rose bush. Are you okay?"
Through her sniffles, Emma was surprised to hear Lucy’s voice which lessened how her face spoke volumes of pain and discouragement. "Are you for real?" she asked.
"Yes. Yes, I am. And I've come to just be with you. Could you use a friend?"
"Could I ever. I just received upsetting news from my doctor. She thinks I have a blood disorder. I’m scheduled for several tests tomorrow.”
"Oh, good heavens!" exclaimed Lucy. "That sounds scary. You know that saying where 'God doesn't give us more than we can handle'? That just is not true. We do get more than we can handle so we will turn to his help, comfort, and guidance."
"Emma, he loves you just as you are. Even though he heals our wounds, he leaves the scars as reminders of his unfailing love. The Bible says to ‘cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for us’ (1 Peter 5:7 NIV). The Bible also says ‘to sit still my daughter until you know how the matter will turn out,’ (Ruth 3:18 NKJV).”
“Little ladybug, you are so encouraging. Your visit has perked up my spirits. Thank you. Will you pray for me and my test results?”
“Absolutely,” she said then flew away. She spotted a teenage boy sitting on the front stoop of his home and flitted down to rest on his knee. "Hello there. My name is Lucy Ladybug. Why are you so sad?"
This is crazy…a talking ladybug." Oh, you know," Joey muttered with his face clutched by his hands.
"No, I don't know. That's why I asked. Let's try this again. Why are you so sad?"
"I feel crushed because I just found out that my parents are getting a divorce. It's just not fair."
"Why is that?" Lucy asked.
"My parents had the greatest marriage. I want to be a parent like they were to me. Now this divorce has ripped all that apart."
"You are right that life is not fair. But you know the one who is fair, good, and true—who never lets you down—is God."
"Where is God now in this mess?" Joey asked.
"The Father is right here because he knows that you need him more than ever." Someday you can still parent your kids like you were parented. You were raised in a loving home; no one can take that away from you."
"Proverbs 22:6 (NIV) says, 'Train a child in the way they should go, and when they grow older, they will not stray from it.’ Just because your parents are getting divorced does not mean that you will. Keep this message in your heart. 'To everything, there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven,' (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NJKV) and you will be fine," encouraged Lucy.
The ladybug let the wind blow her to where she was best needed next. She landed on a wheelchair arm in a nursing home. "Hello. Are you awake?" asked Lucy to the elderly woman.
"Who is that? Where are you?" asked Angie. She is a patient in the Memory Care Unit and in Hospice.
"I'm over here on the arm of your chair. I'm Lucy Ladybug. I've come to spend time with you today. Is there anything you want to talk over?"
"I've lived a long, healthy life. I helped everyone I could. Now I feel trapped in my own body. I once was full of boundless energy, and now I'm just a frail 94-year-old lady. What am I supposed to do?"
Lucy said, "Try to be at peace with God" (2 Peter 3:14 NCV), and "Be still and rest in the Lord. Wait for him, and patiently lean yourself upon him" (Psalm 37:7 AMP). You could pray for those you have helped. It could take your mind off your situation. Besides, your prayers will go where you cannot.”
As Lucy flew away to encourage more people with God's word, she looked back to see a smile added to the creases on Angie’s face.
