None could touch her but they also encroach
Upon her delicate feelings, her sensitive heart
It seems the whole world played a tangible part
In offenses, slights, disrespect and dishonor
The list was amazing of infringements upon her
She craved the abuse and her memory preserved
Each jot and each tittle of wrongs undeserved
Though she smiled like fine china, her words like spun sugar
To the faces and names of those who forsook her
The ledger of crimes grew in width and in breadth
(She imagined them published after her death)
Like the missing glass stones in the brooch that she wore
She struggled to remember grave offenses of yore
And while she recited and recounted them all
Her bones decomposed like an ancient stone wall
And so with no joy, no peace and no life
She crumbled to pieces at the hands of a knife
That whittled away at her heart until shreds
Of destruction unraveled like moldering threads
If only just once she’d chosen fine grace
The quality of mercy our hearts should embrace
Then life, joy, and peace would have made her bones strong
Since Love is the place her heart longed to belong
