against weathered rocks
Dark billowing clouds
masked the sun, kept it blocked
Memories thundered like
boisterous drums
Hopes swept away swiftly
like yesterday’s crumbs
Regrets badgered,
nourished by grief
If only, too late
gave no relief
Hammering words
repeatedly urging
Below high tides and
foaming waves surging
Then suddenly, surprisingly
the storm’s fury grew weak
Was it imagined
or did someone speak
Softly, quietly like
fresh falling snow
A stirring began
and continued to grow
Shards of sunlight
pierced lingering clouds
warmed sagging shoulders
relaxed wrinkly old brows
What is this feeling
this newfound release
A whispering voice claimed
“To you I give peaceâ€
Fears, lies, removed
as if torn from a book
Guilt that once haunted
no more had its hook
Unaware of tears
staining warm cheeks
A fresh yearning within
to hear words He speaks
Beginning anew came
From grasping His rope
A once wounded heart
hears Truth and has hope
