TITLE: Quel Desastre | Previous Challenge Entry

(a modern pantoum)
Four cars doors were slammed and five seat-belts clasped
For a rambling jaunt in their silver sedan.
They traveled the roadway to Hidden Lake Park;
To angle for trout was their holiday plan.
Three days had transpired in their silver sedan,
Then five pair of eyes searched around for the lake.
A setback arose to their trout angling plan
When Tommy bewailed an abdominal ache.
As five pair of eyes ceased their search for the lake
A foul-tasting tonic was quaffed by the lad,
‘Cause Tommy bemoaned an abdominal ache.
(For green ‘round the gills was abominably bad)
The tonic had settled the tum of the lad,
Then Jenny lamented some insect-like bites.
(Now bites on a road trip were wretchedly bad)
‘Twould salvage their trip if the lake they could sight.
Mosquitoes were buzzing—zoomed in for the bite,
Repellant applied—then stashed in Mom’s purse.
They’d confidence soon, the lake they would sight.
Thus far on their trip things could not have been worse.
Repellant and tonic, now stashed in Mom’s purse,
They’d set up their camp in some weeds with three leaves.
Oh no, quel désastre—from dreadful to worse!
A poison from ivy afflicted their knees.
They’d set up their camp; “leaves of three, let them be!”
A lotion was purchased and daubed on the rash—
Relief for the itching that anguished their knees.
The lotion was stowed in the purse with the stash.
So thankful a lotion could placate the rash,
Yet, the lake remained hidden! Oui, so did the trout!
At least they had lotion; ‘twas stored with the stash—
Repellant and tonic— they’d not be without.
The lake remained hidden, *whine* so did the trout.
She dumped out her purse from their trip to the lake.
Repellant, and lotion, and tonic fell out—
Souvenirs—for the bites, and the rash, and the ache.

and become the first and third lines of that stanza.
