I turned around wishing for something I could recognize or identify with. Again, all I’d encountered as I searched was additional debris, and another “road block” sign. The second sign was bigger than the first, and it had an almost eerie glow about it. It seemed to mock me. I stopped in front of the sign and began navigating a way out of this vortex of uncertainty. My mind began to race incessantly.
I was consumed by unrest as a thick fog began to swallow up the surroundings. I fought to see as I was in the dark but it was an exercise in futility. The silence was so loud it nearly shattered my eardrums. I “listened” but couldn’t hear a thing.
“I can’t see, I can’t hear. Where am I?”
Exhausted I slumped to the hard cold ground. My mind swirled with nothing but negative images. I pushed myself to stand and try again. But, with each additional journey I catapulted into a thicker and darker tunnel. Silence taunted me.
How is it I can’t see or hear anything? One minute I’m walking down a path then suddenly I’m immersed in a quagmire of self-doubt. Why is it I’m drowning in a sea of anxiety?”
I was exhausted and weary…I couldn’t go on any longer. I collapsed from mental turmoil and complete despair. In desperation I cried, “Help me God. Oh, if you’re out there…help me! I’m so scared, I’m so tired. I’m so lost. Please, I need You in my life. I’m sorry I didn’t listen to others when they told me about You. I’m sorry…I’m a sinner. Forgive me...I need You Jesus.”
A blinding light beamed through the darkness slicing it away. Suddenly I could hear, I could see…and I felt light, refreshed, and rejuvenated. My mind stopped tormenting me and I felt warmth encroach upon my whole body.
The narrow road straight ahead lit up as I finally made my way home…
