‘A voice was heard in Ramah,
Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children,
Refusing to be comforted,
Because they are no more.’” (Matthew 2:18)
When first Jesus came, mothers wept at Herod’s murderous scheme. Yet, when he comes again, and children rise with Him in the rapture, the desolation will be even greater for any parents who have not accepted Jesus as their Savior. They will be left behind in a world without children.
Mothers with babies will have empty arms. Cradles will be empty except for fuzzy teddy bears. There will be no soft sweet cheeks to kiss, no pat-a-cake, no peek-a-boo, no sleepy-times for cuddles and lullabies. In their minds, they’ll hear their babies’ cries, but when they go to pick them up, they won’t be there. There will be no taking them to Grandmother’s house.
Mothers with toddlers will listen for “Mama,” but there will be no little voices to call out, nor will there be tempestuous rampages through the house on legs, just learning to be steady. Frilly dresses for girls and tiny jeans and ball caps for boys will be laid away for good. Mothers won’t see them giggling with the Muppets on Sesame Street or hear them singing silly rhymes. There’ll be no one to play ring-around-the-rosie or to ride on Dad’s shoulder at the parade. There will be no chubby wounded knees to kiss, no little one to tuck in bed at night, no one who’s begging for a lollipop.
Mothers with school-age children will miss watching them grow and learn and make friends. The classrooms and playgrounds will be empty. There will be no backpacks and school supplies or special lunch treats to prepare. They won’t hear their children shouting at play in the yard or see them perform in their ball games and recitals. There will be no grubby hands raiding the cookie jar. The fun for getting ready for Christmas and birthdays will have ended. The era of bubble gum and knock-knock jokes and shared hugs (under duress) will be over.
But wait, there’s good news for all mothers—and fathers, as well as every other adult and every teen. There is no need to live in a world without children. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). And when Jesus returns, all who are saved can experience eternity with Him.“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). What a glorious day!

As a barren woman, the pain of never having children is great, but I couldn't imagine having them and then losing them. You have painted a good picture of that loss, yet a solution to prevent it from happening.
