Has ruined your sweet slumber,
But you require a dazzling show
To prove you've reached my number.
I didn't wish to tax you with
Such drastic intervention,
But my meek envoys' whispers failed to
Grab your lax attention.
No rustling leaf nor rushing breeze
Could shake your ears of wax,
No book nook's babbling brook could spur
Your feet to hunt my tracks.
I led you on a nature trail
Of vast diversity,
Designed for one sole purpose:
That you might seek after Me.
But you spurned every Noah's dove
Whose coos might woo your heart
And every Balaam's donkey that
Shellacked your apple cart.
The stack of saxophones that
Added music to your dreams
You deemed mere fantasy and vowed
To disbelieve such "schemes."
No holy text engraved by scribes
Could crack your jagged rock.
No story, hymn or sermon could supply
The fiery shock.
No angel, saint, or "things that ain't"
Could change your stubborn course.
They lacked the needed force. It had
to come straight from the source.
Ah, Max, what hacks a cedar door
Like My majestic ax?
One blow has greater impact
Than ten packs of gospel tracts.
What is this ax, you ask, as you
Lie trembling on the floor?
Why, it's My voice, the two-edged sword
You never heard before,
Until the master carpenter (that's me)
Chopped up the tree,
So you could see the blood I spilled
To bring you liberty.
Behold my hands, my feet, my side,
Attacked to set you free.
This thorn-scarred brow declares my love
For all humanity.
You wished to hear if yes, I lived,
Or were such tales pretend?
As you can see, I rose for real
And I am your best friend.
Eternally yours,
Jesus Christ
