jewellery box
to keep her treasures
safe
Earrings and broaches
necklaces and rings
are left, abandoned
on the dressing room table
beside the computer
or on the bedside cabinet
She has a collection
of small boxes
various shapes and sizes
from jewellers about town
Stamped with logos
some empty
some not
No box to keep them
or guard them
They’re never stolen
but often lost
She knows
these things are just
baubles
Not real treasure at all
She has
a hundred notebooks
Truths gleaned
from a thousand and more
daily encounters
with the Living God
Treasure stored
and poured over
She drinks deeply of
the well that never runs dry
She makes her heart
the treasure house
of His truth
and guards it jealously
She watches over His words
and never lets them out of her sight
When temptation
and trial and
tribulations
set up their siege towers
against her heart
she stands her ground
For His words
are life to her spirit
and health to her body
These she will not surrender
So she guards
her heart
and adds to its treasure
daily
