She wiped away a tear.
Her close companion, Isolation,
Whispered in her ear:
‘Turn back, retreat to quiet seclusion,
You can’t enter this throng,
Accept inevitable exclusion,
Turn back, where you belong.’
Her frequent escort, Isolation,
With his chum, Despair,
Expected her capitulation,
But suddenly, standing there,
Two new and strange outsiders
With whom they couldn’t cope,
Two powerful, kind providers,
Their names were Faith and Hope.
With shy determination
Moving forward from her stand,
Through the milling congregation,
Holding Faith and Hope by hand,
She continued firmly on her way
Whilst Isolation cried,
‘It’s not too late to turn away,
To run, escape and hide.’
Then suddenly before her
Was Jesus, and she knew
That all she’d heard about Him
Was wonderfully true.
With Faith and Hope she took her stand
And listened as He spoke
Then with a trembling faith-filled hand
She bent and touched His cloak.
She knew at once, immediately,
That He had made her whole,
From 12 years suffering she was free
In body, heart and soul.
But listening once more to the word
Of escort of past day,
To Isolation she deferred
And turned, to slip away.
Then Jesus spoke – ‘Who touched me?’
His words rang through the crowd
From Isolation she broke free
And there, to Jesus bowed.
With Faith and Hope beside her
She knew saving release,
And heard His words of tenderness -
‘My daughter, go in peace.’
