A hand shot up as she took a drink from her water bottle. Mrs. Shreck swallowed, "Yes Tyler?"
"Mrs. Shreck? What does St2X+1=15amp Act mean?"
Mrs. Shreck raised her eyebrow and gazed at Tyler for a long minute. "What do you mean 'what does St2X+1=15amp Act mean'? That doesn't even make sense."
"I know. That's why I am asking you. It's up on the power point." He gestured vaguely towards the projected image up on the screen. She followed his gesture and her jaw dropped open.
The cursor was moving its own will and for the first time Mrs. Shreck wasn't sure what to say or do.
Tyler blurted out from his seat in the middle of the room, "its happening! The computers are taking over the world!"
She struggled not to laugh at Tyler's theatrics. Her lips twitched as his classmates started to laugh and give him a hard time. All the while, the same algebraic equation appeared in the middle of her power point.
"Okay, guys, it looks like our lecture has been postponed until further notice. So, I want you guys to get into groups I think we have covered enough material for us to start working on our bumper sticker project..." the sound of desks being moved into the pre-assigned groups filled the air. And Mrs. Shreck took the few minutes of controlled chaos to look back over her plans. Once her class had settled down, she then explained what she was looking for and within ten minutes, she had her students working and talking quietly about what view they wanted to present and how to present it.
Mrs. Shreck had her suspicions on what happened, but she couldn't prove it. There had been stories about computer systems that had been taken over using a wireless keyboard. She only hoped that this wasn't the case—though, it was pretty funny all at the same time. She opened the door and stepped next door.
"Um, Mr. Williams, might I have a word with you?"
The younger teacher looked up from his scrawling across the whiteboard.
"Yes Mrs. Shreck, I'll be right there."
She nodded and stepped back as Mr. Williams gave his class an example to work on their own while the two teachers were in the hallway.
"Have you been having computer problems today?" She asked quietly.
Mr. William nodded. "That's why I've been using the good ol' fashioned white board."
Mrs. Shreck continued. "I think I know what was wrong with your computer then."
"Really? How do you know?"
She grinned before stating, "2X+1=15"
"Wait, that was the example I was trying to use a few minutes ago."
"I figured as much, but it seems that somehow your keyboard has managed to hack my computer and interrupted my lecture on the American Revolution. Mr. Williams, you don't know anything about old fashion until you try drawing a map of the United States on a black board with chalk six times in one day."
He grinned a bit sheepishly. "I'm sorry about that Mrs. Shreck." He stated and Mrs. Shreck grinned, holding up her hand.
"It's alright Mr. Williams, you played a good prank on my kids, and we can fix this later. Now, there's one thing that I do need you to do before we fix this situation." She quietly began to whisper and Mr. Williams started to laugh before retreating back into his classroom. She returned to her room, shoulders shaking from the effort of her suppressing her laughter as she half dimmed the lights and turned the projector back on.
There, in the middle of the slide was the following message.
We're watching you, Tyler.
