So I invited her into
The living room of my heart,
To sip coffee
And nibble on dainty pieces of gossip,
Like good friends do.
Little did I know—
As she shared sweet morsels of friendship
She furtively gobbled up scraps of detail
To use for her own gain.
Every smile she gave me
Was a lie,
To persuade me
To let down my guard.
She used the details that she gained
To hack into the profile
Of my life.
Once she gained access,
She stole my innermost secrets,
Daring to rape
My very soul.
She took my treasures,
Distorted them with spray paint,
And shackled them in the stocks
Of the marketplace,
Baring my soul
To the scorn
Of society.
My shattered dreams lie broken
In the dungeons
Of the inquisitors,
And I am left with the choice
To either build a fortress
For warding off all friendships
And guarding my ruined heart,
Or to end my misery
Once and for all.
Social and relational bullying is as real and as harmful as physical bullying, even if it does not look as destructive from the outside. According to studies, bully victims are 2 to 9 times as likely to commit suicide, and at least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying.
