As a nation was weeping, faith was proclaimed,
Fear gripped earth angels from all walks of life--
From Flight 93, desperate calls to a wife.
Angels tagged for appointments one September day
First responders were summoned, with lives some would pay.
Others off duty gave more than their time,
Prayers were the power that offset this crime.
Towers fatally wounded soon crashed in a heap
Belching smoke and debris onto stunned New York streets,
Ash-covered faces, thick air made them choke
Trapped victims were calmed by words Jesus spoke.
From rubble, a symbol of hope had been raised
Broken sections of steel formed a cross for God’s praise,
“God’s house” in the ruins--like waves, love rippled
Each rescuer knew God could not be crippled.
In the days that followed this hellish scene
Each angel lived out what humanity means,
Strangers embraced--no need to speak
Together as one, the strong helped the weak.
A decade has passed since that day in September
But America’s people must always remember
That God was right there sharing each sorrow
And helped bring us through each pain-filled tomorrow.
Be grateful Americans, give glory, sing songs
To God our Protector, to whom we belong,
Through each of our blessings let humbleness guide
Our thoughts, words and deeds--and in Him abide.
