Invite me to enter their peaceful room
I inhale deeply, then slowly release
The ambrosial scent of evening bloom.
The ground beneath my strolling feet
Exhales a breath that’s earthy sweet
A blend of musky, exotic perfume
And traces of summertime’s sultry heat.
Within the depths my eyes apprise
The twinkling of the fireflies
With each breath their searchlights beam
To be answered by hundreds of flashing replies.
A doe appears and sniffs the air
Teaching her fawn to be aware
Ever vigilant, always attuned
To every scent that’s hovering there.
The breath of an owl’s wing kisses my cheek
A bat performs his aerial technique
Haunting night music fills the air
With chirping, a buzz, humming, a squeak.
The wind breathes gently through the trees
Whispering softly to the leaves
Like a mother’s soft lullaby
Carried on the evening breeze.
The earth expels a grateful sigh
Beneath the ever-deepening sky
Released from the unforgiving sun
And furnace heat of mid-July.
I relax, unwind, enjoy the peace
Grateful for this sweet surcease
And with each breath I find release
And with each breath I find release.
