Shadows hang heavy like blankets of dread,
Shooing me quickly to hide ‘neath the bed.
Storm-shaken windows groan ‘till they bleed rain;
Lightening and thunder inject me with pain.
Howling and growling the wind tears the trees;
Limbs crash outside while I fall to my knees.
Moment by moment dread fills up my soul,
Leaving me anxious – the Enemy’s goal.
Somehow this image looks like my own heart,
When stormy assaults chip-chip me apart.
Lies swoop around like a maddening gale;
Fear showers pellets resembling hail.
Just when I think I might faint or be drowned,
Light tears right through the thick blanket of cloud.
Its powerful rays cut into the din,
Shedding God’s mercy to heal me within.
Blinded, I sense only God and His grace,
Holding me still so the fear will erase.
Worry that owned me just moments ago
Suddenly melts in the Light of its Foe.
Right now I stand in the beam of that Light,
Feeling His strength fill me up with His might.
Lord, I’d be desperately lost without You,
And the hope I have through loving breakthrough!

One thought for critique: I think the rhythm trips in a few places, you might want to be careful of this.
Great poem, keep up the good work!
