"My dad says..."
"Your dad?"
The boy's face reddened, indignation rising. "Yes, my dad says that his God says anything is possible."
The class was quiet. Betty and Tom exchanged glances. This should be good.
"I know the type. Just take it on faith. If God said it, believe it."
"Yes, my dad believes everything his God says. He says there's no-one cleverer than him."
"I suppose he'd believe him if he said pigs could fly."
"He would say they could. His God says that a marble statue could wave its arms."
The class burst out laughing. Go for it, Alex. Be your quirky self. Keep the teacher going so we don't have any more lesson time.
The teacher was incredulous. "I've never heard Christians say that before."
He bent down, held Alex's shoulders and looked him in the eyes. "Look, Alex, I know you love your dad, and I don't want to put him down, but I'm here to teach you the real world. You must put that mumbo jumbo away -- a statue waving its arms -- and face reality. I'll teach you real science. I've studied it. In time you, too will understand."
"Dad's God says there are things we dimly understand, and maybe things we might never understand. I think that means we have to just believe some things without understanding them."
"Oh yes, the faith story."
"Isn't it true? Aren't there some things we just have to believe?"
"Not in the real world, Alex. There are things we can't fully grasp now, but given time we will."
Dad says the world we see and feel is not all there is to it; that there are other worlds as well."
"Oh yes. 'My Kingdom is not of this world.' I do know some scripture. 'Seek first the Kingdom of God' and all that gobbledy-gook."
"He also said the invisible world is more real than what we see and feel."
"Oh, really?"
"Yes, and you might think the wall is solid, but it's really a lot of space. One day you might be able to walk through it."
"Oh yes, like Jesus did!"
"I suppose." Alex warmed to his subject. In spite of the laughter and snickers, he wanted to talk. "He also says things can be in more than one place at the same time."
The teacher raised his eyes to heaven. "Like Jesus is now, I suppose. Lord, help us!"
He walked to the board and picked up a chalk.
"Let's summarise all you've said, so the whole class can see how ridiculous it is."
He started writing:
1. Anything is possible. Pigs might fly or a statue wave its arms if God wanted it to.
2. We can't understand everything. Some things need faith. So, put your trust in Jesus.
3. There are more worlds out there than this material world -- the Kingdom of Heaven is real, so seek it first.
4. It was possible for Jesus to walk through a locked door, and one day we might have bodies that can do the same.
5. Someone can be in more than one place at a time, so invite Jesus into your heart. He can be there and in everyone else's heart too.
He faced the class. There, Alex. Is that all? Is that what you said?
Alex shook his head vigorously. "No, I didn't put all that about Jesus in there. My dad's not a Christian. He's an atheist."
The teacher took a step back. "An atheist! But you kept talking about God."
"No. I said my dad's god. He always says that Richard Dawkins is his god. He believes everything that he says. And Richard Dawkins said all those things that I told you."

As scientists delve deeper, especially into the world of quantum physics, they are discovering phenomena that turn conventional scientific thinking on its head. Suddenly the Age of Reason must capitulate to the unreasonable -- on scientific grounds. While they don't yet acknowledge the fact, their discoveries are making it 'scientifically possible' that the 'absurd' stories of the Bible actually happened. Who knows, one day the militant atheists, like Richard Dawkins, may be forced to acknowledge that a donkey could talk, a fish swallow a man and keep him alive, the dead be raised, a sea part and the sun stand still.
