I was a window to your soul
Since vanished with the coming dawn
Too late shall wisdom extol
Measuring angles from curved lines
Pours forth from depths the heart’s conflict
The complexities of your mind
Steady or fragile I depict
Not quite simple as it seems
Painting by hand, heart’s overture
For you once held dear love’s far dreams
Pulled nearer to chest ‘till time nurtured
Like fine wine’s kiss to longing lips
Or sweet music to thirsty ears,
Shores’ distant reaches I eclipsed
Receiving jeweled stains from your tears
I grasp in vain for affection
I, the lost art, pen and paper
Once again this generation
May too late see looming vapor
Replaced by electronic speed
Mailman’s threatened unemployment
Is there no one left who’ll heed
Such lovely written enjoyment
Your quivering pen has succumbed
To uniform atonic words
I mourn my future headlines come
Letter murdered by email’s sword!
