His name is Jesus, and he’s been around for a while. Sometimes we go a long way from home to listen to him, but the other day was so exciting when he passed through our village.
Miriam came yelling into the house. “Jesus is here, Jesus is here,” she said, and we all went running outside. He had lots of people following him, and some of them were arguing. Those old rabbis argue all the time, I don’t even know what they are on about, but they like arguing.
“Mama, Mama, can we go with Jesus?” we asked.
“Of course,” she said, “as long as you don’t get in the way. You go on now, and I’ll come along a bit later.” We grabbed some bread from the house and went after him. Miriam was skipping and Josh, our friend, joined us too. When we caught up we found our other friends Rueben and Mary. We stood outside the circle of people and tried to hear what he was saying.
I couldn’t understand it all, but he was talking about justice, and praying, and helping other people. When we go to Synagogue the Rabbis go on about the law, and I don’t understand anything they say. They go on and on and on and I nearly go to sleep. When we were little we had books to read, but Mama says we are too old for that now and should listen, but I think about all the things I want to do when I get home.
Anyway, this week Jesus came to our village and I think everyone from the village was pushing and shoving around him, all trying to get close. We couldn’t see past all the adults, they didn’t want us there.
Mama came. “I want you all to meet him,” she said. So you know what? She just pushed through the crowd. “Well, everyone else is pushing,” she said to me. “I can push too.”
But the disciples came and shouted at her. That’s those men who are travelling with Jesus, and sometimes they get grumpy.
“Take those children away,” they shouted. “There is no place for them here.”
But Jesus saw us. He smiled, and his face was beautiful!
“Let the children come,” he said, and the disciples had to let us through. Some mothers had their babies there, and do you know what? Jesus took those babies on his knee! Imagine that. He seemed to like holding them. We crowded close too, and Jesus reached out to put his hand on my head.
“Let them come, and don’t stop them,” he said. “The kingdom of heaven belongs to little ones like this. I wish everyone had faith like these children, because you have to have that sort of faith to enter the kingdom of heaven.”
Some of the grown ups looked mighty mad, but Jesus didn’t care, so I didn’t either. I looked into his eyes and he was smiling and so glad to see us.
I’ll never forget that day. I felt loved and accepted, and I’ve followed Jesus ever since.

So often children are seen as a burden or unimportant. Not so with the Lord. I enjoyed your story and your title caught me.
