I would like to belatedly congratulate you on your engagement to Ron. I hear from others that you both are well suited and I am sure you will have a great life together.
This letter is a hard one for me to write as it does not show me up in a very good light. God has been working in my life over the past five months, he has graciously forgiven my sin and for this I am very grateful.
However, I have also sinned against you and Ron and in order to ask your forgiveness I have a confession to make.
Admittedly the broken engagement shattered my heart. All my dreams came crashing down like a broken chandelier, smashed into smithereens’. As I healed, God revealed to me that Ron and I were not suited to each other and I am thankful God intervened before I made a mistake that could not be undone. I realize now that I was ‘in love with love’ and not truly in love with Ron.
Unfortunately, my anger took a wrong turn when Ron asked for the ring back; to say I was not happy is an understatement. The engagement ring was all I had left of my shattered dreams and this is when I sinned. I took the ring to a jeweler in the next town and asked that the diamonds be replaced with cubic zirconia. They are a good imitation of a diamond and can only be identified by a qualified person. I intended to keep the diamonds as a reminder of a lost love.
I am ashamed to say that the ring you are wearing (my friends have identified it as the one I wore) is worthless and I am so very, very, sorry that I have done this to you both.
I have given the diamonds to Jim Robertson of Robertson’s Fine Jewelers and told him the story. I have also paid for him to insert the real diamonds back into your ring.
I am now asking if you both have it in your heart to forgive me.
Sandra
