Christine woke each morning, fed the baby, and then prepared breakfast for her family. It was the same every morning. At precisely seven thirty breakfast was served, and by eight fifteen her husband and daughters were ready to go to work and school, leaving her at home with baby Samuel.

"Mommy, please take us to school this morning. That old bus is stinky!" Six year old Samantha pleaded.

"You'll have to take the school bus today, Samantha. I have an enormous headache."

At eight fifteen on this particular morning Christine sat down at the table and cried.

Christine felt as if she lived in a fish bowl. She'd once been an excellent surgeon with a prestigious career. Now, she was married to a man she was certain was in an affair and had three children. She loved her family dearly, but lately all she could think about was her freedom.

She and Sam had once been so close. They were thrilled when they became the proud parents of twin girls, Samantha and Christie. Five years later, Christine was surprised to find herself pregnant again with their son, Samuel.

Sam was a CEO of a large corporate company. After the twin's birth, Christine decided to put her career on hold and became a full-time mother. Samuel was born the same year the girls started first grade, and Christine wanted to put him in daycare and go back to work. Sam did not approve.

"Christine, you don't have to work, you need to be a full time mother to your children." Sam was raised without a mother, and he wanted her to be there for his children at all times.

Christine remembered the scolding in Sam's voice as she cried. Her pity party was interrupted by the telephone ringing. It was the girl's teacher, Mrs. Sweat. Her voice quavered with dire news.

"Christine, I'm so sorry to tell you this, there has been a school bus accident. Many children have been injured."

"My girls?"

"Yes, they're at St. Johns hospital."

Christine slammed the phone down, picked up a sleeping Samuel from his playpen, and was out the door in less than ten seconds.

Dear God in heaven, please hear me. Please let them be alive! I'm so sorry I am such a selfish mother. I'm so sorry I wished to be free of my children. Why, oh why, didn't I take them to school this morning?

Christine called Sam on the way to the hospital. His snippy young secretary, Cindy, rudely informed her that he was in a meeting.

"You get him on the phone!" Christine yelled.

Cindy huffed but clicked her through to Sam. He ran out of the meeting at Christine's news. They arrived at the hospital at the same time and went to find their daughters in the emergency room.

"Mommy! Daddy! Christie ran into her daddy's arms, and Samantha went to her mother.

"Oh, thank God, you're both okay! How are the others?" Christine asked Samantha.

"Some are hurt, Mommy. Christie and I were lucky to be in the back of the bus. The big truck hit the side."

"I have to help, Sam. Could you take the children home, please?"

"Certainly."

Christine went straight to work, performing surgery on several children. It was late when she got home to find Sam waiting for her.

"Sam! How are the children?"

"Sleeping soundly." Sam smiled but seemed sad.

"Christine, we are so blessed. Our children are safe. I only wish I could say the same for our marriage. Why are you so unhappy all the time?"

"I think you're having an affair, Sam."

"An affair! Are you kidding? Absolutely not! I love you Christine, but you've been so distant lately. You seem to live in your own little world."

"What's going on with Cindy? Why is she always so rude to me?"

"I had planned to fire Cindy this afternoon because of her attitude, and I am not having an affair, period."

Christine's eyes filled with tears as she kissed her husband with a renewed passion. She knew what she wanted now. God's had given her a wake up call, and He had spoken loud and clear.

"Sam, I want to become a volunteer surgeon at the Children's clinic for eight hours a week. My sister can keep Samuel for those few hours. What do you think?"

Sam's face lit up. He wrapped his big arms around his wife and held her close. "Welcome home, sweetheart."
