“Thank GOD it’s Friday, right back atcha, Mr. Goodrich. Did you see my text? Thank you for the scrumptious chocolate cheesecake.”
“Yes, I did. And, you’re welcome—you deserve every bite. Happy Secretaries Week, or whatever they are calling it this year. Did you try it, yet?”
“I had a small sliver. You know I am always on a diet. It’s very rich—oh, but it’s so, so good.”
“Awww, come on, Liberty… I know better you better than that. You had more than one slice, right?”
“Yeah, you caught me, sir… I had three so far.”
“There, that’s my girl—I mean, my Executive Assistant. Sorry about that—gotta be politically correct now-a-days.”
“I know what you meant, Mr. Goodrich. Before I am tempted to eat another small slice, I better get back to work. Your 2:00 video chat with the President of the bank is in 5 minutes. Oh, and your doctor called—he sounded concerned and wanted to talk to you right away.”
“Oh my… I forgot all about that. I went in for a PET Scan the other day and everything has been so crazy, it just slipped my mind. Too many meetings and too much to do. Can you reschedule the appointment with the bank president? I am going to call the doctor back right now.”
“Consider it done.”
“See—you ARE the best Executive Assistant my company has ever seen. It’s your calling.”
“Show me the money.”
“Funny you said that. Your bonus is in the top drawer.”
“WOW—thank you, Mr. Goodrich. Gold coins? Thank you… Do Not Disturb mode for you?”
“Yes, I will be in my office.”
“Done.”
“Hello, Doctor Heinrich?”
“This is Doctor Heinrich.”
“Hi, this is Steven Goodrich. I am returning your call?”
“Ahh, yes Mr. Goodrich. Thank you for calling me back. I need to meet with you as soon as possible to discuss the results of the PET Scan.”
“Okay, is this something you could just tell me now?”
“Oh, no sir, I really need to meet with you in person.”
“Well, this is a very busy time in my company—we are about to close on three huge deals, and I really can’t afford to take the time out to run down there again.”
“Well, sir, I understand. We all have very busy lives. Are you sure you cannot see me?”
“Yes. Please tell me now.”
“Okay, if you insist… I have gone over the scan several times and conferred with my colleagues to confirm the diagnosis…”
“Diagnosis? Oh…”
“Yes sir. You have a small tumor in your brain and a larger one in your left lung. From the blood work we did while you were here, it’s showing you have cancer.”
“Wow…”
“Mr. Goodrich, are you still there?”
“Yes… sir.”
“Our standard diagnosis would be to give you anywhere from 4 to 6 months to live.”
“Oh my….”
“If it is okay, I would like to transfer you to Oncology scheduling—we can attack the tumors with chemotherapy, radiation treatments, immunotherapy and biologic therapy, possibly giving you more time to live. It appears that surgery is out of the question, because of the location of the tumors: they are too close to critical functions in your body. An Oncologist will discuss all these options with you.”
“Thank you, Doctor. No need to transfer me. I will call them back in a few minutes.”
“Take care, Mr. Goodrich. Goodbye.”
“Bye… Wow… Liberty?”
“Yes, Mr. Goodrich?”
“Please come here, I need to talk to you.”
“On my way—just need to finish my thought on this PowerPoint slide for your presentation tomorrow.”
“Okay—thanks for doing that.”
“It’s my job, silly.”
“Thanks Liberty for being here for me—today.”
“Oh my—what’s going on, Mr. Goodrich? You’ve been crying...”
“Yeah, something I’ll probably do a lot of.”
“What did the doctor say?”
“I have cancer—lung cancer. About 6 months to live.”
“What? Wow…that’s crazy. You don’t even smoke.”
“Guess that doesn’t matter, hey?”
“Guess not... Here’s a tissue.”
“Hey Liberty—several months ago, I started making a bucket list… things I need to do before I ‘kick the bucket.’ And guess what the first thing is on my list?”
“You got me in suspense, Mr. Goodrich. Okay, what?”
“Go to church with Liberty.”
“Oh my…this is awesome… thank you, Lord! Are you serious?”
“I'm as serious as gold. I’ll be there Sunday.”
“This is sooo wonderful. I’ve been praying for years!”
“Oh, I know.”

It was great to see that they had enough of a friendship developed to have the gentleman make a decision to go to church after hearing his doctor's news...the female MC was obviously someone who knew real riches, and had been sharing that with her boss all along.
Good read!
I enjoyed the interaction with the two MC's...and although he had cancer and a dim prognosis, it has an alternate ending for me. I believe going to church and receiving Jesus as his savior will turn his life around. And with prayer and faith, anything is possible...so maybe a miracle is coming.
Great job...thanks for this.
God Bless~
